TMJ/TMD

Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) are disorders of the jaw muscles, temporomandibular joints, and the nerves associated with chronic facial pain. It can present as many different forms such as chronic head and facial pain, recurrent headaches, migraines and neck pain. These conditions are usually the result of a series of injuries which can cause strain upon the joint from macro-trauma (a blow to the face, car accidents), or micro-trauma (clenching, bruxing or an imbalanced bite). Proper diagnosis and focus on origin rather than symptoms is the key to successful long term treatment results.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

If you find yourself suffering from snoring, fatigue and poor concentration, you may be suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This type of apnea occurs when your throat muscles intermittently relax and block your airway during sleep. One possible sign of obstructive sleep apnea is snoring. OSA is associated with high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, type II diabetes, memory loss and numerous other health problems. We provide oral appliances for obstructive sleep apnea as an alternative to CPAP and offer other non-surgical treatment modalities to allow you to sleep more peacefully and improve your ability to breathe better both day and night.

Craniofacial Jaw Development for Children and Adults

Airway centered dentistry is a practice philosophy of evaluating the patient as a whole beyond just the teeth. Our approach addresses the underlying causes for crooked teeth, not just the symptoms. The way we breathe and use the orofacial muscles has an impact on the development of the jaws, face and teeth. If there is underdevelopment of the face and jaw, the airway may not grow enough for normal function which may result in crowding of the teeth. To maximize the airway space the body may develop postural compensations, protective ways of standing, sitting and moving that may be damaging to muscles and joints. Simply straightening the teeth without addressing these compensations often results in relapse of the crowding.
